Ford estimates that a depleted Focus Electric battery pack will recharge in as little as three to four hours using a 240-volt home charging station, roughly twice as fast as the Leaf. Ford roadside assistance delivered fuel.
Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. I don't know if this is because of changes between the 2012-2014 models or because of the diffrerence in weight distribution between the gas and electric models. The Focus Electric pack is liquid-cooled--unlike the air-cooled Leaf pack--which should make it more resistant to extremes of temperature. Ford replaced the computer control system for free; as it received an extended warranty. And while at the time of posting we hadn't yet sampled production vehicles, the pre-production models we tested had a sense of solidity and hefty build quality that far surpasses that of the previous model, even if it isn't that much heavier.
