Sorry I didn't take pictures. The gas gauge sending unit is a dealer part. Once I knew this, the rest of it was easy. The Fuel Pump relay is in the cab to the right and above the steering column. Basically there's a very simple computer in there that engages a bunch of the vacuum solenoids and temperature switches to reduce emissions.

The second time i had a problem i had parked on a hill for a minute, when i got back in the engine died, apparently the pump didnt have the pressure to pump fuel at the slightly higher elevation of the carburator, i made the assumption that the ground was bad again because the pump didnt run as fast as it did before, after fooling with the ground and adding more fuel it started. I don't remember if it is under the vehicle or under the hood. Between B and D are a coil and 1k resistor colors were hard to see, looked like 1K in parallel. My dad is now thinking that it may be the fuel pump, but he's not sure which to order. This almost certianly means that A is the connection to the fuel pump. They mechanics had said, among other things, that my carb was shot so my dad brought me a rebuilt carb. After getting home i did some tests. On the other truck, to my suprise and angst, it is… Go to the link for Auto Zone on the right for the instructions. Remove upper radiator hose from thermostat housing. But, after you get under there, by the back wheelwell passengerside, if you have to move forward you missed it. Depress clip on… there is a bypass hose that connects to the bottom drivers side of the pump. I assume you want to replace your filter, just have a shop do it. The thermostat will be located behind the thermostat housing at engine end of upper radiator hose.
I used the spade lugs so I didn't have to cut off the original Toyota Relay Style connector. On… Unless the japs have come up with something new, there is no dip stick on a manual transmission. The belt has a cover over it, in order to remove it, you must take out the alternator belt, power steering pump, fan, fan-clutch… On a 1985 extended cab with 22R engine which I presume would be similar you remove the plastic top and bottom around the steering column, about 7 screws. After some testing i found that the fuel tank was not grounded very well, so i attached a ground wire from the frame to one of the bolts on the pump mount on the tank. I would love to test between A and the top of the fuel pump, but I can not do this without lowering the gas tank this weeks plan as my head is too large. The reason to replace both of these is that they are prone to failure and you will have them off anyway. If no 12v to the pump check wirring from fuel pump relay to fuel pump. Good job, I,ve never sat down and tried to figure out the stock wiring on the relay, but I use the same relay on my rig rewired differently than stock to power my aftermarket pump, the way I wired it serves as a safety shutoff, plus I have the ability to prime the fuel system if its been parked for a time and I don't want to crank on it till it gets oil pressure to activate the pump. If I remember right, you should see the filter clipped to the upper part of the inside of the right wheel well, or to the right side of the frame to the right of the fuel tank. You guessed it,,my fuel pump started dieing on me,,pressure was diminishing off and on, i made it home luckily, i also stopped at the auto zone and picked up a generic replacement pump, and im trying to decide if i should replace the intank pump or just use the generic pump inline? A 2nd opinion could be:I have 1979 Toyota and the fuel filter is in the engine compartment -passenger side -next to air cleaner.
Disconnect your battery, remove the front passenger tire, and then disconnect your power cable on the starter 12mm nut. Drain some coolant into a clean container. It's not where you would think. Some used parts shops have them but you run the risk of having…. Remove the 3 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to engine. So I took it apart to understand if it was working correctly. This also applies to a 1988 Toyota Pickup.
